Someone once said to me that you attract more flies with honey than vinegar. It’s a weird analogy (who really wants to catch a fly?) – but I get what it is saying, and I absolutely agree with the principle.
I was also told that the louder you shout the more you get, and I couldn’t disagree with that more.
When I think back to the younger me, I do cringe slightly. Way back then I could have been described as hard-nosed and a bit black and white.
Now don’t get me wrong – I am in no way a push over, but time and experience has taught me that a respectful, calm, clear, courteous, and unemotional (but not cold!) approach will always achieve more and make for a rewarding and positive interaction for everyone.
It sounds so simple, but it still surprises me that not everyone conducts themselves in a respectful way when it comes to business relationships.
Business (and life!) can be stressful enough and we all struggles from time to time.
I am still learning but I try to remember – reach for the honey -not the vinegar!
